Supply Chain Manager
Position Summary
The Supply Chain Manager is an integral member of our manufacturing and supply chain group responsible for directing and overseeing all material and supply chain-related procedures within the company. This position provides leadership, counseling, training, and performance management for staff working in the purchasing, planning, shipping, receiving, and warehousing departments of the company. Ensures timely planning and availability of materials to meet customer sales order demands and quarterly sales forecasts. Develops, implements, and monitors controls associated with managing inventory balances and accuracy.
Principal Responsibilities
– Manages a department of purchasing professionals engaged in the timely procurement of materials and services to support company-wide operating objectives. Monitors the performance of the supplier base relative to quality, price, and delivery.
– Oversees on-going cost reduction efforts being implemented by purchasing and recommends alternate approaches as necessary to ensure annual financial objectives in this area are maintained.
– Manages a department of material planning and material processing specialists’ personnel engaged in all aspects of material planning and control in support of manufacturing work cells and production schedules.
– Manages the shipping, receiving and warehouse functions of the company and ensures service levels are consistently high in support of companywide operating objectives. Responsible for import/export of product(s), OSHA guidelines and shipment requirements for hazardous goods.
– Ensures timely planning and availability of materials to meet customer sales order demand scheduled in the backlog. Ensures timely planning and availability of materials to meet quarterly sales forecasts.
– Develops, implements, and monitors all controls associated with managing inventory balances and accuracy.
– Leads a daily/weekly meeting to review daily bookings and shipments, review scheduled shipments for the day, review material issues, and highlight possible issues that would negatively impact the ability of Operations to meet scheduled orders in the sales order backlog.
– Monitors and reports shipment and service levels (on-time deliveries) to the senior management team.
– Work closely with Sales to solicit input relative to the forecasted incoming order rate and use this data to drive the manual Material Requirements Planning system (MRP). Participates in monthly forecast meetings with Sales and Manufacturing management.
– Responsible for staffing, recruiting, hiring and termination of personnel within the material’s functional areas. Provide counseling, career development and training, and conduct performance planning and reviews.
– Prepares departmental operating and capital budgets with accountability to financial performance of the department as measured against the budget.
Job Requirements
BS/BA degree in Business, Engineering or Logistics or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 5+ years’ experience in supply chain, logistics, purchasing and/or material planning capacity. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and direct others. A collaborative partner with excellent organization, time management, and communication skills, (both oral and written). Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines. Foster and maintain solid working relationships at all levels of the organization and with vendors and associates. Good reasoning and sound judgment. A positive “can do” attitude; analytical and problem-solving skills. Must demonstrate a practical understanding of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for improvement and applying proven tools in implementing sustainable fixes. Proficient with various software programs including MS Word, Excel, Outlook. Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems highly desired.
