Testing Explosives and Narcotics Detection Performance on a Novel Ambient Desorption Ionization Compact Single Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer

In environments where safety can’t be compromised—airports, high-risk facilities, and our communities—reliably detecting explosives and narcotics is essential. Current trace detection systems, which rely on thermal desorption for sample introduction struggle with low-volatility substances like inorganic salts. Moreover, detection by retention time can also misidentify harmless materials, slowing down response times and eroding trust. That gap in speed and certainty puts people at risk—and demands a better solution.
